I appreciate the handmade object as a useful expression of the maker's aesthetic. Studio pottery brings this gift into daily experience, allowing people to integrate the sculptural and decorative art of the potter with their daily routines of drinking coffee and serving dinner. My work shows the strong influences of British studio pottery and Japanese folk pottery. I try to create pure and simple shapes. I am attracted to the contrast between round and square, sharp angles and curves, glazed and unglazed. I put a lot of information into the surfaces of my pots and choose glazes that will bring these details out by breaking on the edges or pooling in the hollows.
